FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Learn about April King Legal's history and our approach to estate planning, trusts, and property protection through answers to our most frequently asked questions, including how we can help you get started protecting your estate through a free initial appointment.

Q. We've made Wills with another firm; can we still come to you?

Of course! Around 90% of our clients come to us having previously made basic Wills with another firm, which, after reviewing, are typically inadequate and do not protect against future care fees or include bloodline protection. We can help in various ways; you can book and visit one of our regional offices or use our Direct Service to get expert advice no matter your location.

Q. How do I gift specific items such as jewellery?

You can do one of two things: either gift them in the Will, or we can give you a codicil gift list to complete. These gift lists do not need to be completed at the time of making the Will so that you can take your time over this.

Q. If we upgrade to April Wills® to protect our property, can the survivor move to another property or downsize?

Yes, these provisions are written into the Will; you retain a life-long interest in the property and the right to move or downsize. Request your free, no-obligation guide here to learn more about how our April Wills® work.

Paul King April King lawyers

Q. Is April King Regulated?

Our lawyers are regulated by the Solicitors Regulatory Authority (SRA) or the Chartered Institute of Legal Executors (CILEx). Our team also includes specialist Trust and Estate Practitioners (TEPs), and we have access to barristers through the Bar Council’s Licensed Access Scheme or Public Access Scheme where appropriate.

Where clients instruct one of our paralegals, their work is supervised by our qualified, experienced in-house lawyers. Each client is informed at the outset of the regulatory status of the relevant staff member within our client care agreements. We operate in a Chambers-type model, where the individual lawyer is regulated rather than the firm itself.

The ‘King’ part of our name refers to our founder and CEO, Paul King. Paul is a full member of STEP, the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. Full members of STEP, such as Paul, are inheritance and succession planning specialists.

Safeguarding the family bloodline

Q. We have not heard of April Wills® before; are they a new thing?

April Wills® are different from standard or basic Wills. They are tailored to your family situation and objectives, with the aim of keeping your estate in the bloodline. Our specialist team of estate lawyers has developed various proven legal strategies with one aim in mind: protecting your children's and grandchildren’s inheritance.

Q. Who is April?

April originally stood for the Association of PRacticing Independent Lawyers. In 1991, April Law merged with King & Co. to form April King Legal. Paul King remains CEO & Head of Client Services to this day.
